Friendica is a very flexible type of server on the Fediverse: it lets you follow Mastodon accounts, other types of Fediverse account, RSS feeds, Twitter etc. There are no specific character limits on posts. It also has additional features such as, calendars, photo albums, groups etc.

It has just received a major update, you can follow the official project news account at @news

Hi there, thanks for the info! I think it would also be really helpful in these kinds of articles to talk about who is building and maintaining these tools and what their stated goals are.

this could be why I’m starting to see what seem like VERY long posts in my feeds.

tried to sign up for two different instances; both said"This site has exceeded the number of allowed daily account registrations. Please try again tomorrow."

I didn't know about the Twitter part of that. Can you associate it with a Twitter account so as to reply to tweets too?

Do you need a separate friendica identity? Or can you use your existing mastodon identity?

I love how admins promote Masto (& my comments):

Masto uses an open API for its servers, which means that anyone can write an app
(even teen hackers!)

The easiest way to find out whether it works is to download a free Masto app and try signing in
(test it yourself, we didn't bother!)

It should be noted that Masto developers don’t officially support this
(good luck sucker!)

if it stops working check with the maintainers of your Fediverse platform
(like you know who that is!)
